Bruce a manufacturer of hardwood flooring, said last night that Edward M. Gilbert had resigned as president after admitting unauthorized withdrawals of nearly $2 million from the company. Bruce issued a statement sa saying "Gilbert's resignation followed his disclosure to the directors that between May and June 6 he had made authorized withdrawals the corporation in the amount of $1,953,000." Gilbert, president since last September, also resigned as a director. Bruce was elected to succeed Gilbert as president. He will continue as chairman.

Gilbert said in a statement that he had made the disclosure to the directors voluntarily. "I resigned as president and a director in order to permit the board to have a free hand to take such action with respect those matters as it deemed advisable. "The actions I have taken were directed to the protection of an acquisition program on behalf of the corporation, and in my judgment were in the best interests of the corporation and its stockholders. Day Wood Dies at 72 E. Day Wood a native of Jonesboro, who had lived in Tampa 'since 1925, died Monday at his home, 1716 East Henry Street. Born April 12, 1890, Mr. Wood later lived in Columbus, until moving to Tampa in July, 1925. He had been semi retired for the past few years, but, prior to that, had Wood worked in the advertising department of Tampa Radio Sales.

Mr. Wood was a member of the Seminole Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth W. Wood: two daughters, Miss Martha Wood Mrs.

H. B. Tatum; a son, E. Day Wood and four grandchildren, Martha Harold Lynn Tatum Ann E. Day Wood III, all of Tampa.

Mrs. Miller Dies in Miami Mrs. Jeanne Miller, 44, wife of a former Tampa theater chain manager, died yesterday at her home in Miami. Mrs. Miller was the wife of Curtis Miller, who for 10 years managed the Claughton theater chain in the Tampa area, which included State, Cinema, Palma Ceia and Northtown.

The Millers left Tampa for Miami in 1954. Miller is a theater and hotel business manMrs. Miller is also survived ager in Miami. by a daughter, Toni. Funeral services and burial will be held Thursday in Miami.

College Observers Visit USF Three representatives of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools have completed an informal visit to the University of South Florida and will submit a report on their observations to university association's committee on colleges next month. The Southern Association is the agency which has responsibility for accreditation of colleges in this region. The committee, which visited for three days at the campus invitation of USF president John S. Allen, included Deans George Manners, Georgia State College; John Berry, University of Miami, and M. C.
