Easy ham recipes! Maple glazed ham is a 5-ingredient glazed ham recipe that makes delicious baked ham for Christmas or Easter dinner! So easy and so tasty!

Maple Glazed Ham Recipe (1)

Ham is probably my favorite of all of the holiday meats. We have turkey for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and we have ham for Christmas and Easter.

We have pretty much the same meal every time – ham, scalloped potatoes or funeral potatoes, vegetables like green beans or asparagus, andHawaiian sweet rolls or dinner rolls.

I make this maple glazed ham recipe the way my mom taught me to make it. Over the years, I tweaked it a little by adding maple syrup to the simple glaze for a little extra sweetness.

Ingredients

For this ham, you’ll need the ham plus 4 simple ingredients to make the maple glaze.

  • Ham – I like to use a butt or shank portion.
  • Real maple syrup
  • Brown sugar – Light or dark brown sugar will work.
  • Dijon mustard – Stoneground mustard would also work.
  • Cider vinegar

How to make glazed ham

Rinse ham in cold water, and pat dry. Place fat side up in a shallow baking dish or roasting pan.

Bake ham for half the baking time (75 minutes).

Maple Glazed Ham Recipe (3)

Whisk maple syrup, brown sugar, mustard, and vinegar together.

Maple Glazed Ham Recipe (4)

Brush ham with maple syrup mixture. Baste ham with juices regularly throughout remaining baking time.

>>TOP TIP: If ham begins to caramelize too much, tent loosely with aluminum foil.

Let ham continue to bake until it reaches an internal temperature of 140 F. Let ham rest for 10 minutes. Then slice and serve.

Tips

  • If you taste the glaze before you add it to the ham, you’ll notice that it’s a mix of sweet with just a little tang to it.
  • I baste the ham every 15 minutes or so during the last half of the baking time.
  • Resist the urge to add more salt! The juices from the ham add some needed salt to the mix, and the resulting ham is incredibly tasty.

Leftovers and storage

The cooked ham will keep for about 4 days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge. Leftover ham also freezes well, and you can store leftover ham in freezer-safe containers for about3-4 months.

If you find that you want to use the leftover ham in a new way, there are a number of recipes, like baked ham and cheese sliders, slow cookerscalloped potatoes with ham, andcrock pot red beans and rice, that use ham.

FAQs

Do you glaze a ham before or after baking? ›

The glaze should not be applied until the final hour to 30 minutes, in order to avoid burning the sugars. What you're going to do with the glaze ingredients is just combine most of them into a paste, and then apply it to the ham. After that, the heat in your oven will take care of everything.

What cut of meat is used for glazed ham? ›

A honey-glazed ham is usually made with a spiral cut ham. This is achieved by cutting the meat from an in-bone city ham in a spiral fashion, leaving the meat on the bone in its usual shape. It means the meat can be evenly sliced once it's cooked rather than carved from the bone.

How long to glaze a precooked ham? ›

Place the ham in a large dish and pour glaze over the top to coat all over. Allow to stand in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Every 40 minutes, spoon the glaze that has pooled at the bottom of the dish over the ham.

Do you glaze a ham covered or uncovered? ›

After the ham has cooked for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, brush the surface with some of the glaze. Then pop it back into the oven, uncovered, for another 20 minutes or so.

Should a glazed ham be covered when baking? ›

If you don't cover your ham while cooking it will quickly dry out. Instead: Put some aluminum foil over your ham while it's cooking. It is recommended that the ham is covered for at least half of the cooking process and only removed during the last half when you glaze it.

Why put cloves in ham? ›

By studding the ham with beautifully scented Whole Cloves you create a wonderful Christmasy aroma and flavour that permeates the ham gently through the cooking process. It also looks very effective once the ham is cooked!

What is the most flavorful cut of ham? ›

The butt end (the top half of the ham) has more tender, fattier meat, lending a richer flavor. However, it does have a T-shaped bone inside that can be tricky to carve around. Don't worry about that, though, because we have tips on how to carve ham the right way.

Do you cook a ham at 325 or 350? ›

Heat oven to 325°F. Remove all packaging materials. Place ham, cut/flat side down, on rack in shallow roasting pan; cover tightly with aluminum foil. Heat approximately 18 to 23 minutes per pound until heated through.

Do you rinse a precooked ham before cooking? ›

Whether you are cooking a bone in or boneless ham, pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees. Start by removing the packaging from the ham (and bone guard if you're cooking a bone in ham), and you can rinse the ham before cooking if desired.

How do you heat and glaze a fully cooked ham? ›

Add water to the bottom of the pan and cover the whole thing tightly with foil. Bake at 325F for 16-20 minutes per pound, until a meat thermometer registers 135F. Unwrap the ham and apply the glaze; increase the heat to 400F and bake for 15-20 minutes longer until the glaze is burnished.

When should I put my glaze on my ham? ›

About 20 minutes prior to the end of cooking time, begin glazing the ham but applying it with a silicon brush. Continue to glaze every 5 minutes until the ham is done. The ham is ready when a thermometer reads an internal temperature of 135-140f.

Should ham be at room temp before glazing? ›

Prep The Ham

Let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Brush 1/2 cup of the glaze over the ham with a heatproof spatula or pastry brush.

How do you glaze a ham after cooking it? ›

Mix together the mustard, honey and sugar in a bowl, then generously brush half over the ham. Roast for 15 mins, then brush with the remaining glaze. Return to the oven for a further 20-30 mins or until sticky and brown. Leave to cool for 15 mins before carving into thick slices.

What do you do with the glaze packet for a ham? ›

To apply glaze, remove the ham from oven 10 minutes before the end of heating time, turn oven up to 220°C (425°F) and follow instructions on glaze packet. Since ovens vary in temperature, these are guidelines only. Glazing: Empty contents of the glaze packet into a small saucepan. Add 22 mL (1 1/2 tbsp) warm water.

Do you put a ham face down when baking? ›

Place ham cut-side down on a large sheet of foil in a roasting pan. Pour reserved liquid over ham and wrap completely with foil. Warm ham in oven for 10 to 12 minutes per pound. Do not overheat.
